Vijai assures budgetary provision to encourage startups in agriculture
Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai on Friday assured that there would be a budgetary allocation of at least Rs 25 lakh from next academic year for institutions encouraging startups in agriculture.
He was speaking as a chief guest at the inauguration of Forum for Innovation Incubation Research and Entrepreneurship centre at Fatorda Don Bosco Engineering College. With it, the total number of such centres has gone up to 191 in India. The plaque of the centre was unveiled in the presence of priests and other dignitaries, besides the college faculty members.
“I am happy to see that such an incubation centre has been set up in Fatorda. I assure that budgetary provision will be made in the next academic year of at least Rs 25 lakh to encourage startups in agriculture,” he said, adding that, the TCP department will also give an increased floor area ratio (FAR) for institutions working for the welfare of the society.
On the occasion, a MoU was signed with two startups in agriculture. He said Goa can be an ideal place for innovative startups as innovations are highly valued.
Chairman of Goa State Innovation Council Jose Manuel Noronha said that technology-based ideas will be incubated at the centre and a big push will be given to the entrepreneurs who register with the intellectual property office in Delhi.
He said the central government has provided grants of Rs 10 crore to the Don Bosco Engineering College to commence incubation research through the scheme-National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board.
Fr Felix Fernandes, provincial of the Salesian Society, thanking the government of Goa and at the Centre, said that Forum for Innovation Incubation Research and Entrepreneurship is assisting in thinking “out of the box” on entrepreneurship.
Fr Kinley D’Cruz, director of Don Bosco Engineering College spoke about the difficulties they faced in commencing the Forum for startups. On the occasion, six startups were honoured.
