Team LegoGoa wins ‘Most Inspirational Team’ at FLL Robotics Championship
Team LegoGoa won the ‘Most Inspirational Team’ Team Work-Core Values Award at the First Lego League (FLL), Robotics (Western Zone) Championship held in Mumbai and was listed in the top ten teams. More than 400 students aged between nine and 16 across the West Zone participated in the competition which included Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa.
Team LegoGoa was the smallest team which comprised students Sai Pranav Gandhi of class three from Sharada Mandir School, Miramar; Swayam Kakodkar of class 5 from Manovikas English Medium School, Margao and Eric Sequeira of class 8 from Sharada Mandir School, Miramar.
The team was mentored by their parents who had no prior academic training in robotics and their 16-year-old friend Eric Fernandes who is a first-year student at Government Polytechnic Panaji.
The FLL is designed as a sport for the mind and is an alliance between FIRST (For Inspiration & Recognition of Science and Technology) and the LEGO group. The Challenge has three parts: Robot Game, Project, and Core Values. Every year, FLL releases a Challenge which is based on a real-world scientific topic. This year the theme was ‘Into Orbit’. LegoGoa team also presented a project on growing food for space titled ‘Andromeadow, Growing Micro greens in space’. Experiments were done on growing Amaranthus (tambdi bhaji) and mustard which would take care of the nutritional deficiencies in astronauts as well as provide them with fresh vegetables. The project book was also presented to the Director of Agriculture.
Team LegoGoa was instrumental in spreading FLL initiatives in Goa by free coaching, helping in the launch of FLL Kick starter event for school students, robotics workshops and also spreading the joy of robotics to slum kids of Goa.
