Stendly treble sinks Churchill

FATORDA: Riding on a treble by striker Stendly Fernandes and a strike from medio Lloyd Mascarenhas, Sporting Clube de Goa thrashed Churchill Brothers 4-0 in the GFA Air Arabia U-18 Football League match played at artificial turf grounds, Fatorda-Margao on Sunday.

Stendly found the mark in the 34th, 40th and 70th minute while Lloyd’s goal came in the 80+2 minute.

In-form Sporting played an organised game as they gelled well in the midfield while their defence line too stood its ground firmly.

Sporting went into the lead following a nice move which saw defender Lakesh Gawas sending a through-pass to Stendly who lost no time in slamming the ball past the bewildered Churchill keeper.

Just before the stroke of half time, Stendly was in the thick of action again to register his second goal from the spot kick. The penalty was awarded after a Churchill defender handled the ball inside the box.

Stendly completed his hat-trick in the 70th minute after collecting a pass from medio Dattaraj Gaonkar.

Churchill Brothers did come up with a few moves which however fizzled out due to poor finishing abilities.

And just when the match was about to end, Lloyd Mascarenhas struck to hand Churchill Brothers a 0-4 defeat.

Dempo SC win

Meanwhile, Dempo SC scored a narrow 2-1 win over Goan FC at Dempo SC Academy ground in Ella ground.

Dempo SC started the match on an attacking note and shot into the lead through Altroy Rodrigues in the 30th minute. However, the young Golden Eagles failed to defend their citadel and conceded soon in the 42nd minute through Goan FC’s Jovito Dias.

Just when it looked like the match would end in a 1-1 draw, Dempo SC re-grouped and went on to score yet another goal through Kimran Dias in the 76th minute.

Elsewhere, at Sirsaim ground, Sesa FA and Salgaocar FC played out a goalless draw.
