Replica of Benz Motorwagen 1886 set to cruise in Goa
The arrival of a working replica of Benz Motorwagen 1886 at Ashvek Vintage World, Margao, is going to be an exciting event, reports Team B&C
The Benz Patent Motorwagen built in 1885, is widely regarded as the world’s first automobile. It would be a treat to see a Benz Motorwagen but few exist and they are not for public show. Just 25 Patent-Motorwagens were built between 1886 and 1893. However working replicas of the iconic motor car were built for aficionados. Goans will soon have the incredible opportunity to see the Benz Motorwagen marvel at Ashvek Vintage World, Nuvem.
Pradeep Naik, owner, Ashvek Vintage World, says that, he got the thrill of his life when he saw the Benz Motorwagen at the Brooklyn Garage in UK and just knew that he had to get one for himself. He found a working replica of the Benz Motorwagen 1886 model manufactured in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu and decided to buy it to add to the collection of his vintage cars.
Naik sourced the car from UMS Technologies, Coimbatore. He did a ride on the Motorwagen 1886 model replica and says it was an overwhelming experience. He says that, the original Benz Patent Motorwagen was built by Karl Benz in 1885 and was patented in 1886. Karl Benz’s brilliant idea of using an internal combustion engine to power the automobile as opposed to horse drawn carriages was a stroke of genius.
The car had the Benz 954 cc single cylinder 4 stroke light weight engine with trembler coil ignition. It had an open crankshaft with balance weights, a drip oiling system and water cooling enough to generate 0.55KW and a top speed of 16 km/h. The car was fueled by benzene and snorted and hissed as it was driven. The statuesque Benz Motorwagen 1886 replica is expected to be in Goa in the second week of November. For car lovers it is going to be a dream experience.
