Mapusa robbery: father-son among 3 held




Alertness of Mapusa police personnel, who were deployed in the municipal market on patrolling duty, resulted in nabbing of three thieves, including a father-son duo, who were attempting to commit theft at a shop in the market.

Mapusa police have recovered items worth Rs 1 lakh, including cash.

The police disclosed the names of the arrested persons as Nawazuddin Bepari, 47, and his son Shahbaz Bepari, 29, and another person, identified as Shabbir Attar Gani, 25, all from Belagavi from whom items worth Rs 1 lakh were recovered, including four induction stoves, seven gas stoves, one cooker and stove and cash of Rs 30,000.

According to Mapusa police, on Wednesday at around 2.15 am, the police personnel while patrolling in the market, spotted an unknown person moving on the rooftop of shops and alerted other colleagues.

Accordingly, PI Kapil Nayak, along with a team, rushed to the spot and began a search for that person and found one person along with stolen items on the rooftop of shops while two more were found in a shop which they had entered inside by damaging a roof portion and were in the process of committing theft. All of them were apprehended.

Following a complaint from Gajanand Davjekar, proprietor of gas stove shop and Geeta Davjekar, an offence was registered against the three accused who were caught red-handed under Sections 457, 380 of Indian Penal Code and placed under arrest.

Meanwhile, one of the accused Nawazuddin Bepari is undergoing treatment at district hospital after he complained of indisposition.

Mapusa JMFC has remanded the accused to seven days in police custody.

PI Nayak informed that “SP North has announced award for the two police staff Prasad Polkar and Laxman Naik for their alertness that resulted in the arrest of the three.”
