DBO Fatorda reach finals

MARGAO: Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda downed Ugem Rising Club, Sanguem 1-0 and entered the finals of Bebe Costa memorial football tournament played at St John, the Baptist grounds, Benaulim on Wednesday.The all-important goal for Fatorda side was scored by Anslon Furtado in the 16th minute of the first half. DBO, Fatorda will now meet St Anthony’s Youth SC, Assolda in the finals scheduled to be held on Sunday, July 13.

St Anthony’s, SFX enter semis

MAPUSA: St Anthony’s Monte-de-Guirim and SFX HS Siolim advanced into the semis of the U-14 boys Subroto Mukerjee football tournament, organised by DSYA and played at Tivim grounds, Wednesday. St Anthony’s beat St Xavier’s HS, Moira 4-3 via tiebreaker. In the next quarters, SFX were stretched into the penalty shootout by St Britto’s HS before they got the better of them by 4-1 margin. Earlier they played a 1-1 draw in the regulation time. Oran Fernandes put St Britto’s ahead, while on crossing ends Prakshay Simepurushkar leveled terms for the SFX school.

Maina Curtorim thump Taleigao 3-1

PANAJI: Maina Curtorim defeated Clube Sao Miguel de Taleigao 3-1 to advance into the quarters of the 26th all-Goa St Annes inter-village festival soccer tournament, organised by Ponda Footballers and played at Animal Husbandry ground, Curti-Ponda. Peter Pereira netted a brace and Vicky Cardoza scored a goal for the winners, while Jayedra Kuncolikar reduced the margin for Taleigao. In the quarters Curtorim side will clash with Raitura SC on July 14.

KJ’s, Globe Trotters, DBO Fatorda, Ever Green basketball champs

PANAJI: KJ’s, Globe Trotters, DBO Fatorda and Ever Green were champions in the men’s and women’s, open and veteran categories at the 12th DBO Basketball Tournament held at Fr Benedict Furtado Memorial indoor stadium, recently. KJ’s Miramar edge past Don Bosco Fatorda 49-47. In men’s veterans category, Globe Trotters defeated Alien’s Basketeers 23-17. In women’s veterans category, Ever Green overwhelmed Super mom’s 16-7. In women’ open category, Margao Basketeers downed Don Bosco Fatorda 24-22. Fr Avin Carvalho, principal of Don Bosco HS was the chief guest for the finals along with guest of honour Fr Wilfred Fernandes, manager of Don Bosco College.

Aashrun, Yash, Yasmin, Megan in badminton finals

PANAJI: Aashrun Gautam will meet Yash Kunkoliekar in the finals of the U-15 boys singles event while Yasmin Sayed will meet Megan De Souza in girls U-15 finals in the SAG State Ranking Badminton championship, organised by Goa Badminton Association in collaboration with the Sports Authority of Goa, at Indoor Stadium, Campal. In U-13 girls, Yasmin Sayed will meet Lydia Barretto while Soham Khandeparkar will clash with Sushil Nayak in the finals of the Boys U-13 event. In boys U-15 semis, Aashrun beat Shubham Rivonkar 21-11, 21-15, while Yash beat Mehul Jirage 21-15, 17-21, 21-14. In U-15 girls semis, Megan defeated Richa Singbal 21-17, 21-9, while Yasmin got the better of Lydia Barretto 21-14, 21-16.

HC Arpora march into finals

MAPUSA: Holiday Sports Club, Arpora booked their place in the finals of the Calangute Panchayat Soccer Cup, organised by Calangute Association, with a 5-4 win over FC Siolim via tie-breaker at Poriat grounds, Wednesday. The match ended in a goalless draw. In the penalty shootout, Sahish Palyekar, Shubham Malvankar, Sagar Gaonkar, Pramod Mardolkar, and Bhavesh Gawas scored for Arpora, while for Siolim Anthony Fernandes, Claudio Rodrigues, Sangam Pednekar and Pushparaj Mandrekar scored.

5-a-side futsal at DBO Panaji

PANAJI: Space Kraft in association with DBO Panaji will organise JOGA 2014, a 5-a-side indoor futsal tournament at Don Bosco Oratory, Panaji. A total of 64 teams will participate and 64 matches will be played in the 4-day event. Entries will be open till 8 pm on Thursday, July 10. Forms are available at the DBO office in Panaji.
