Holy Spirit Institute, Margao had it easy against Infant Jesus High School, Cuncolim winning the match 9-0 with Aditya Salgaocar and Harsh Patre scoring hat-tricks while Saideep Pomburphekar, Mevan Dias and Arnaldo Oliveira scoring a goal each in the Subroto Mukherjee Cup U-17 Inter-School Football Tournament played at artificial grounds, Fatorda on Wednesday.

The 40 minute duration of the game in the heavy showers that lashed the city, saw goals at regular intervals, starting from the 2nd minute.

The much superior Holy Spirit Institute sustained their pressure till the very end of the match and it was only due to some brave goalkeeping by Infant Jesus High School keeper Sahil Balekundre that the score line was restricted to only nine goals.

Holy Spirit Institute who led 6-0 at half time, scored three more goals in the second session to complete the rout.

While Aditya Salgaocar bulged the nets in the 2nd, 10th and 12th minute to complete his hat-trick of goals, Harsh Patre who also came up with a hat-trick scored in the 6th, 20th and 24th minute, while the other goals were scored by Saideep Pomburphekar (25th min), Arnaldo Oliveira (22nd min) and Mevan Dias (27th min).

Holy Spirit Institute could have scored still further but the hurdle was the Infant Jesus High School keeper Sahil Belekundre who displayed great courage and conviction to bring out spectacular saves, one after the other.

Though the score line was big enough, Holy Spirit Institute did not impress much against a weak side whose defence was in shambles and a half line which was totally non functional. Infant Jesus HS strike force was non existence and as the rivals had it easy to score goals as they pleased.

In the other matches of the day, Holy Rosary Convent High School, Nuvem defeated Bhatikar English High School, Margao 2-0.

Rio Costa and Velroy Ferrao scored for Holy Rosary Convent High School, Nuvem.
