Goan FC cruise past Guardian Angel

Goan Football Club struck three times in the second half and that was enough for them to strengthen the hold on the top spot of the Goa football Association (GFA) professional league after their convincing 3-0 win over Guardian Angel SC at Rosary ground, Navelim on Tuesday.

Second half strikes by Aaren D’Silva, (78th minute), Liston Colaso (85th minute) and Imran Khan (90+1 minute) saw Goan FC pale Guardian Angel after an entertaining first session played on equal footing by the two teams.

Goan FC, who were in the ascendancy in the last fifteen minutes of play, overran the Guardian Agnel S C team with three great goals to silence the Sanvordem based team’s vociferous fans who had thronged to the Rosary grounds in numbers.

It was Goan FC’s medio Kingsley Fernandes’ brilliance that helped the Goan FC team take the lead when he ripped open the Guardian Angel SC’s defense with a long through ball to substitute Aaren D’Silva who strongly headed the ball to stun Guardian Angel SC keeper Ozen Silva.

Goan FC doubled their lead when Kingsley Fernandes ran to the left corner of Guardian’s goal and then sent a back pass to better placed Liston Colaso who banged in to keep Guardian Angel  SC’s keeper rooted under the bar.

The third goal in favour of Goan FC came  when the match went into the add on time of 90+4 minute when substitute Imran Khan fired a powerful shot off Liston Colaso to once again daze Ozen Silva under the Guardian Angel SC bar.

Guardian Agnel SC had had a good first half, crumbled under pressure in the second session as Goan FC made the desired substitutions to add salt to their strike force. Aaren Silva and Imran Khan who were inducted in the second half responded.

The first half saw Goan FC taking hold of the match after half an hour – though the team had a great chance in the very fifth minute of play when striker Liston Colaso’s top of the box shot was punched away by Ozen.

Guardain Angel responded quickly and in the 9th minute, a left footed half volley unleashed by Guardian Agnel’s Sunny Fernandes was smartly saved by Goan FC keeper Shubam Dhas.

Midway into the first session, Goan FC’s Ivon Costa had a glorious chances, but the spilled the opportunity from six yards to the chagrin of his team mates. Just as the first half was about to end, Goan F C’s defender Saviour Gama headed over the bar from close.

Guardian Angel SC had a few chances in the second session but their strikers simply failed to deliver. Medio Allway Vaz twice lost the opportunity to find the mark and then some stray chances were squandered to their fans.

With this win, Goan FC has collected 23 points from nine matches while Guardian Angel SC has 10 points from eight.
