Guirdolim clinch win with one goal

SERAULIM: Guirdolim SC entered the quarterfinals of Seraulim Panchayat Cup football tournament defeating Maina SC by a solitary goal played at Seraulim grounds on Sunday. The all important goal came off following a smart cross from the right flank in the 58th minute to Ifran Yadwad who on receiving the pass, dodged two rival defenders before cooly sloting the ball home. Just a minute before the final hooter Guirdolim’s striker Mario Fernandes sent a rasping drive which whizzed past the right post before moving out menacingly.

 

Belurkar wins 2nd IM norm

PANAJI: FM Nitish Belurkar achieved his second International Master norm as he defeated top seed FM Xu Zhihang (2501) of China. Nitish achieved his second IM norm with a round to spare as he remained undefeated in the GM round robin third Saturday Chess Tournament in Novi Sad, Serbia, mentioned the press note from Goa Chess Association. Nitish will participate in Grandmaster chess tournaments like Mayors Cup, Mumbai and 2nd Goa International Gramdmadters tournament, Goa in June 2019 where he will be in quest of his final IM norm.

 

Cansaulim knockout Goa Velha to enter quarters

KAKODA: CAC Cansaulim entered the quarterfinals of Holy Cross Cup football tournament defeating Goa Velha SC 2-0 in their match played at Kakoda grounds, Curchorem on Sunday. Both the goals in favour of CAC came in the first session of play through Agnelo D’Souza (17th minute) and Veegan Ferrao (25th minute). The teams played on level terms in the second session and even though CAC made some dangerous forays the Goa Velha keeper Agnelo brought out some spectacular saves.

 

Ambelim win thriller in tie breaker

VERNA: Ambelim SC entered the final of Nagoa Panchayat Cup football tournament defeating Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda 6-5 via the tie breaker played at panchayat grounds, Nagoa on Sunday. The teams played an exciting 2-2 draw during the regulation time. Joel Colaso and Velton D’Souza scored for Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda in the regulation time. Ameblim SC found the mark through Samson Fernandes who scored a brace of goals to come on level terms. In the tie breaker Ambelim S C proved to be the better shooters. Ambelim will now meet Raia SC in the finals to be played on May 5.

 

Yash sets national record in shooting; bags 2 gold

PANAJI: Yash Padloskar of Goa stood 3rd in the 62nd National Shooting Championship held at Army Marksmanship Unit Mhow regiment Madhya Pradesh from April 20 – 28. He bagged 2 gold medals in 300 mtr 3 position and smashed the old national record, setting a new bench mark. He also kept a masive lead of 50 points from his fellow competitor.

 

7 from Goa selected for National Chess meet

PANAJI: Seven players from Goa have been selected for the National Chess meet scheduled to be held in Bhubaneswar in the month of June. The players participated in the two-day Regional Chess meet 2019 of Kendriya Vidylya Sangathan, Mumbai region which concluded on April 27.
