Goan FC down Dempo, reach semis
AMBELIM: Goan FC managed to beat Dempo SC 7-6 via tie-breaker and seal a semis spot in the Goa Sevens Premier League, organised by Goa Sevens and Ambelim Sports Club in association with Goa Football Association (GFA) at Ambelim Sports Complex, on Tuesday. The teams played out a thrilling 3-3 draw in the regulation time. While Kingslee Fernandes, Leander D’Cunha and Liston Colaco scored for the Gaurs, Nestor Dias, Beevan D’Mello and Nickson Castanha converted for the Golden Eagles. In the tie-breaker, Franzil Negeredo, Liston Colaco, Meldon D’Silva and Savior Gama converted from the spot for the winners.
Royal Builders get better of Euro Connexion
AMBELIM: Royal Builders finished the GSPL Women’s Football Festival with a 2-0 win over Euro Connexion in the Sevens Women’s Football Festival, organised by Goa Sevens and Ambelim Sports Club, at Ambelim Sports Complex, Ambelim on Tuesday. Dasiy Crasto and Clency Miranda scored a goal each in the first half to seal a win for the winners.
Bardez Veterans edge Davondem Veterans
TALEIGAO: Bardez Veterans reached the semifinals of the 6th All Goa Panjim Veterans Soccer defeating Davondem Veterans 6-5 via tie-breaker, at Taliegao ground on Tuesday. The teams were locked in a goalless draw during the regulation time. In the penalty shootout, Lourence, Miskin, Anand, Ramesh, Caitan and Rafiq were the scorers for the Bardez Veterans while Luis, Abit, Alfred, Xavier and Vincent scored for Davondem Veterans. Fr Milagres Dias was the chief guest and gave away the man of the match award to Bobby Crasto of Davondem Veterans.
GFA EC proposes permanent affiliation to four clubs
PANAJI: The Executive Committee of the GFA, which met on Tuesday, decided to propose to the General Body to grant permanent affiliation to four clubs viz Mormugao United CSC, Ronit Sports Club, FC Tuem and Goan Warriors FC, states the press release issued by GFA on Tuesday. The release further adds that the GFA also took exception to the veiled attack by Churchill Alemao against the GFA in the media recently wherein it was alleged that its relations with the AIFF and other sports bodies were not properly maintained.
U-9 Open, Girls chess at Mangeshi from May 25
MANGESHI: Ponda Taluka Chess Association will organise District 317B Lions Clubs International All Goa U-9 Open and Girls State chess selection cum championship from May 25-27 at Wagle HS, Mangeshi. Players born on or after January 1, 2009 can participate in the tournament. Top two players in each category will be selected to represent the state for the Nationals to be held at Ranchi, Jharkhand in September later this year. Entries may be sent to Amogh Namshiker (9422455896) or Wilson Cruz (9766109574) on or before May 23.
