Gaude stresses on all-round development of children

Calling upon students to think beyond percentage and focus on all-round development, Minister for Art and Culture Govind Gaude said that only good percentage won’t ensure better career but to gain knowledge, willpower to do something new is required.

Gaude was addressing the gathering during the youth connect programme held at Ponda. He said that there is nothing impossible in life and we should set a goal and strive until we succeed. He assured constituents that he would take up development works by preserving natural resources.

Gaude also unveiled his ‘Vision document’ for Priol constituency. The document is focused on developing irrigation system, healthcare facilities, employment generation through entrepreneurship and providing skill-based education by setting up Eklavya project.

A panel discussion was held on ‘Relevance of education in generating employment in rural areas’. Production Terminus CEO Sushant Tari, chairman of Ravindra Bhavan Margao Prashant Naik, educationist Pournima Kerkar, journalist Prakash Kamat and Gaude were the panelists.

Panelists claimed that there are ample opportunities in state for employment but Goan youth are shying away as they are not ready to get out of their comfort zone and try something new. They felt that the opportunities are grabbed by outsiders.

Panelists also stated that instead of vying for government jobs, youth should take up self employment. Presently agriculture is the only business which is sustainable and there is ample scope for organic farming, expressed some panelists during the discussion.

The issue of school dropouts and their employment was also discussed. Panelists opined that there is a need to conduct a survey on dropouts and find the reason.
