FC Bardez in survival mode: on lookout for sponsors
DULER: Football Club (FC) Bardez who got a direct entry to the Goa Football Association (GFA) Professional League after paying around Rs 13 lakh have been hit by financial crisis and unless a sponsor steps in, the team may be disbanded at the end of this season.
Players have not received their salaries and the fate of the technical staff is similar. The FC Bardez management are making desperate efforts to rope in some sponsors.
“I am very happy with the way the boys have responded. They are handling the pressure well and despite not receiving their salaries, they are still with the team,” stated FC Bardez head coach Armando Colaso.
“We are in discussion with three groups and hope a deal will be struck before the end of the season. Once, that is done the first thing will do is pay all the players and staff their salaries. We are here because of the boys and paying them is the next logical thing,” stated a member of the FC Bardez management.
FC Bardez was registered in June by Sydney Lemos who is languishing in a jail in the Gulf. Sources close to Lemos disclosed that the club had sufficient funds but with no replenishments, they were utilised.
“What can we do? If we leave the team in the middle of the season there is no scope for us to get our money back. By playing and hoping someone comes forward to sponsor the team, we hope to get our dues back. We are in a catch -20 situation. We play and hope to get paid. If we do not play there are no hopes of getting paid,” a player told The Navhind Times in confidence.
FC Bardez started off with Armando Colaso as coach and Climax Lawrence as his assistant. Armando , it may be noted , refused an offer to coach Churchill Brothers FC in the I-league to remain with FC Bardez.
FC Bardez is sixth in the 2017-18 Goa Professional league. Most of the boys hardly come for practise nowadays. Some just manage to make their appearances on match days, disclosed sources with the team.
“ I do not want to comment on what happens behind back doors but I must highlight the work being put by everyone in the team. They are doing everything for their love for football. This needs to be appreciated.. It is their dedication for the game that is admirable. Most of the boys remained with the team because of me and Climax. None of them are complaining. Yet, we must also realise that they too need money to survive,” stated Armando.
