Ensure ATMs are properly guarded: DGP
PANAJI: Banks are not bothered about the cash kept in the ATMs as it is insured, neither are they concerned about the security, said the Director General of Police Muktesh Chander while felicitating a security guard Ranu Singh in the city. Chander said that the police will achieve a breakthrough very soon in the incident.
Also present at the felicitation were SP North Chandan Chaudhary, SDPO Nelson Albuquerque and police inspector Siddhant Shirodkar.
Ranu Singh was felicitated for his bravery in foiling an attempt to rob an ATM at the Maharashtra Bank located next to Dena Bank in the city on the intervening night of October 26 and 27.
The Director General of Police presented an award of Rs 5,000 from the Goa Police and a certificate.
Despite sustaining grievous injuries from the alleged accused, the security guard displayed bravery and an attempt to rob the ATM was foiled by risking his life. The security guard removed the mask of the thief and snatched the hammer from his hands thereby safeguarding the ATM.
The incident took place at around 1.10 am and the police on duty went to the crime spot and conducted the panchanama. The security guard was admitted to the GMC and his statement was recorded while the bank manager was contacted.
The police will soon propose to banks to upgrade their alert system and use latest security gadgets which will generate SMS alerts to police as well as the bank managers if any attempt is made to rob the ATM.
