Dunes hold Dempo in six-goal thriller

Dunes Sports Club registered their fourth draw in as many matches as they held strong Dempo SC to a thrilling 3-3 draw in the Geno-GFA 1st Division League match played at Dempo SC Academy ground, Ella-Old Goa on Tuesday.

With the drawn game, Dunes SC are now on four points while Dempo SC, who have so far played five games, are on five points.

Jayesh Chopdekar, Jason Fernandes and Ryan Pereira were the goal scorers for Dunes SC while Dempo SC Juniors got their goals from the boots of Larryl Mascarenhas, Cletus Pinto and  Altroy Rodrigues.

The teams started the match playing end to end football. Though Dempo SC Juniors were stable upfront, their defence looked vulnerable with poor communication on the field. Taking full advantage of the same, Dunes managed to break the deadlock in the 6th minute through Jayesh

Chopdekar as when he received a pass in the Dempo SC territory and slotted home.

Down by a goal, Dempo SC Juniors were let down by their poor backline which cost them the second goal wherein Jason Fernandes was poorly allowed by the defenders to break into the goal to make it 2-0.

Dempo SC Juniors however enjoyed the final 10 minutes of the first session and successfully managed to turn their possession play into goals as Larryl Mascarenhas and Cletus Pinto scored two goals in the span of five minutes to make it 2-2 at the breather.

Crossing over, Dempo SC Juniors started the match on attacking note and took the lead in the 48th minute through Altroy Rodrigues.

Holding the slender lead was always going to get difficult for Dempo SC Juniors with their ever settling defence. Dunes SC were rewarded with the equalising goal with all their efforts as Ryan Pereira made it 3-3 in the 64th minute.

Dempo SC Juniors saw two of their players – Ariston Costa and Deepraj Govekar go into the referee’s books for rough play. Dunes SC’s Jason Fernandes was named the man of the match.
