CM: employment not a poll plank in Panaji
Panaji: Stating that the Panaji bypoll will be the easiest compared to the recently concluded by-elections to the three other assembly segments, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant Monday said that jobs cannot be BJP’s priority for the May 19 bypoll.
“Jobs cannot be a priority for this election. Employment cannot be the poll plank. This bypoll is for the development of the city, the state and for the stability of the government,” Sawant said while interacting with media persons in Panaji.
When questioned whether there was a possibility of the BJP votes getting divided between former Panaji MLA and BJP candidate Sidharth Kunkalienkar and former Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leader and Goa Suraksha Manch candidate Subhash Velingkar, Sawant claimed that such a situation would not arise wherein the voters will have to think about choosing the candidate, as the GSM candidate moved out of the party two years ago.
“The voters are well-educated and they will vote in favour of BJP based on the development work done by our leader Manohar Parrikar and the development work carried forward by the party under the smart city mission in which Sidharth has played a major role,” he said.
Parrikar’s elder son Utpal Parrikar, who was also in the race for the party ticket, speaking to media vowed to work for the party and put in all his efforts along with party workers to retain the Panaji seat.
“Elections come and go; connections are important. My father had good connections with the people of Panaji which I will be maintaining,” he said.
