Azgaonkar is Deputy CM

A day after he joined the BJP, Tourism Minister Manohar ‘Babu’ Azgaonkar on Thursday was designated as a Deputy Chief Minister of Goa and the newly-sworn in minister Deepak Pauskar was  allotted the portfolios of public works and museum.

The general administration department on Thursday issued a notification designating Azgaonkar as a Deputy Chief Minister.

Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai is the other Deputy Chief Minister.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has kept river navigation and transport portfolios with him.

Azgaonkar and Pauskar had broken away from the MGP and merged their splinter group into the BJP in the wee hour of Wednesday.

Following this development, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had dropped senior MGP leader Ramakrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar from the cabinet, who enjoyed the post of deputy chief minister only for a few days.

Pauskar, who was sworn in as the minister at 11.30 pm on Wednesday, took charge of office on Thursday evening at the secretariat.

Sardesai has shifted to the chamber, which had earlier been occupied by Dhavalikar.
