30% flats or land area to be reserved for locals in housing board projects

PANAJI: The state government has decided to keep 30 per cent flats or land area for locals in upcoming housing projects of Goa Housing Board all over the state.

The department of housing has framed guidelines wherein 30 per cent of constructed flats or land area in proposed new housing projects will be reserved for locals.

Speaking to ‘The Navhind Times’, Housing Minister Jayesh Salgaonkar said that the new guidelines for housing projects, to be constructed by Goa Housing Board, have been framed and the file in that regard has been sent to the government for approval.

He said the government will ask the local village panchayats to prepare the list of eligible beneficiaries for 30 per cent reserved flats or land area, adding, the eligible locals will be charged lesser amounts to buy the flats as compared to those in general auctioning category.

“The 30 per cent reserved flats or land area would be applicable for upcoming housing project at Colvale, besides proposed new housing projects,” he added.

The Goa Housing Board, in its recently held meeting, had decided to set up three new housing projects in Porvorim, Tivim and Bicholim.

Meanwhile, the minister informed that the modalities are being worked out to give definitive title of plots to those who are occupying it since last many years.

“We have come cross various cases wherein plots in housing board colonies were purchased by somebody else and currently being occupied by others. These occupants are paying rent, but cannot proceed for sale deed by paying one-time payment as they are not original purchasers,” Salgaonkar said.

He informed that in order to resolve this issue, Goa Housing Board has decided to appeal to the original purchaser by publishing advertisements in dailies to come forward and transfer the plot to occupants.

“We want to do justice to occupants who are currently living on these plots by constructing houses,” he added.
